Engage Leadership through Employment, Validation, and Advancing Transformation and Equity for persons with HIV
ELEVATE is founded upon the Denver Principles.
ELEVATE builds on the achievements of HRSA and RWHAP training programs and incorporates their features into a single project.
Purpose and Goals
The purpose of the ELEVATE program is to build the capacity of Persons With HIV (PWH) to be meaningfully involved in the planning, delivering, and improving of Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) services.
ELEVATE will address needs in workforce recruitment, development, and advancement for PWH in populations 50+, Young Black Men, transgender/gender non-conforming (T/GNC), Latinx, and the recovery community. ELEVATE will bring forth an increased initiative in these communities hit hard by HIV so that self-awareness and self-advocacy will grow, while supporting the four goals of the HIV National Strategic Plan.
ELEVATE will have three components to best meet the needs of the targeted community members most at risk from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program community and participants within the 57 EHE in the U.S jurisdictions: Leadership Training, Coaching for PWH, and Web-based resources. This work will be accomplished through interrelated activities across the five partnering organizations.
Eligibility Requirements
Each ELEVATE training will consist of 75% people with HIV and 25% RWHAP. Individuals participating in the ELEVATE training must be persons with HIV (people with HIV/PWH) aligned with a RWHAP Recipient and Subrecipient.
To participate in the ELEVATE Program one must meet the following criteria:
- Employed by RWHAP
- Member of Planning Bodies or Planning Councils
- Member of Consumer, Community, and Patient Advisory Boards
- Director from the Boards of RWHAP
- Member of Clinical Quality Management Teams or Committees
- Other PWH aligned with a RWHAP seeking greater involvement
Training Schedule & Applications
Training sessions are 4-5 days long, and cover topics such as leadership, HIV prevention and treatment, public health, advocacy skills, trauma and more. There are breakout sessions for planning, improving and delivering of RWHAP services. Residents within 50 miles of the city in which the training is hosted will receive a stipend for travel reimbursement.
