Marketplace Account Transfers Without Client Knowledge: What to Do

TargetHIV

From the ACE TA Center Listserv

Some states and RWHAP agencies are reporting that clients enrolled in a plan through the Marketplace are being transferred to different Marketplace plans by agents and brokers during the plan year without the client’s knowledge. This issue has also been raised by state regulators and CMS has indicated they are also aware of and working to put a stop to this practice. This type of inappropriate plan switching is concerning, particularly for RWHAP clients who depend on plans with the provider network and formulary that meet their care and treatment needs.

If you think your client has been transferred to a new Marketplace plan without their knowledge, the ACE TA Center encourages you to:

  • Contact your state’s insurance regulator to report it,
  • Email ACE to let us know, and
  • Work with your client to make sure the plan they’re enrolled into is appropriate for their health and financial needs.
