Administration for Community Living

The Administration for Community Living is a robust Federal program whose mission is to maximize the independence, well-being, and health of older adults, people with disabilities across the lifespan, and their families and caregivers. 

Key ACL Programs
  • Eldercare Locator is a nationwide service that connects older adults and their caregivers with trustworthy local support resources, including meals, home care or transportation, or a caregiver needing training, education or a well-deserved break from caregiving responsibilities.
  • Area Agencies on Aging coordinate and offer services that help older adults remain in their homes - if that is their preference - aided by services such as Meals-on-Wheels, homemaker assistance, and whatever else it may take to make independent living a viable option.
  • State Health Insurance Assistance Program provides Medicare beneficiaries with information, counseling, and enrollment assistance.
  • Aging and Disability Resource Centers Program/No Wrong Door System supports support state efforts in streamlining access to long-term services and support options for older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Long Term Care Ombudsman this program advocates for residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, board and care homes, and similar adult care homes.
