The rationale and steps to take to get HIV-infected individuals on antiretroviral treatment as soon as possible are outlined in the ShareSpot Blog: Immediate ART Initiation, by Susa Coffey, MD of UCSF.

The blog presents a Clinicians’ Guide "distillation of best practices for immediate ART initiation, and is based on resources from San Francisco’s Getting to Zero RAPID program and San Francisco General Hospital’s RAPID program."

The blog notes that the HHS Guidelines for the Use of Antiretroviral Agents in Adults and Adolescents Living with HIV note the potential benefits of so-called rapid ART but that it “remains investigational.”
