Two universities have received federal funding "to explore innovative sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV prevention strategies: 1) implementation of doxycycline as post-exposure prophylaxis (doxy PEP); and 2) HIV and syphilis point-of-care testing (POCT)."
The grant awards went to the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) and the University of Washington (UW). Information is limited on the projects, which are described in CDC's announcement, CDC awards $4.8 million to support STI and HIV prevention strategies. Both universities have existing work and resources in these areas, including the following, with sections on HIV testing and prevention:
- National HIV PrEP Curriculum (prepared by UW and UAB, with CDC and HRSA funding).
- National HIV Curriculum (UW and UAB, funded by HRSA).
