A series of resources on Syringe Services Programs (SSPs) were released by CDC in late May, with links to information about the efficacy of SSPs and their services, which extend well beyond needle disposal and cover, for example, linkages to treatment.
The SSP materials are outlined in a CDC Dear Colleague letter, CDC Releases Materials on Syringe Services Programs, and include the following:
- Safety and effectiveness of SSPs with data on their role in curbing incidence of infectious diseases along with citations on improvements in public safety in cities with SSPs
- A four-part general information fact sheet on SSPs
- Yet another fact sheet tailored for public health agencies with a focus on the public health impact of SSPs
- SSP FAQs
