FDA Approves Point-of-Care HCV Test

TargetHIV

FDA has approved a test for hepatitis C (HCV) that can deliver results within an hour, setting the stage for same-day test-and-treatment for HCV.

This will be a huge change from the current process that requires sending HCV test samples to an external laboratory and follow-up visits, all which entails the potential for loss-to-care for some HCV-positive patients.

Read the FDA statement, FDA Permits Marketing of First Point-of-Care Hepatitis C RNA Test: Test Enables Single-Visit Testing and Treatment for Hepatitis C (6/27/24).
