About 1 out of 10 people getting HIV care from HRSA's Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) have temporary or unstable housing. Their viral suppression rates lag behind the overall RWHAP average, but have improved considerably over the past decade-plus.
These insights are summarized in a new HRSA HIV/AIDS Bureau infographic, Housing and HIV-Related Health Care Outcomes Among HRSA’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) Clients in 2021. Notably, viral suppression rates among housing-compromised individuals have improved dramatically. Among those with:
- Temporary housing, from 63.7% in 2010 to 83.6% in 2021.
- Unstable housing, from 54.8% in 2010 to 77.3% in 2021.
Comparatively, viral suppression among clients with stable housing increased from 71.2% in 2010 to 90.8% in 2021.
