Initiative to Build Cross-State Social Worker Licensing

TargetHIV

HRSA has funded a project focused on building a common approach to social worker licensing that will allow providers to practice across state lines without having to apply for a license in each state, which is the current requirement.

The Licensure Portability Grant Program will create a multi-state social worker licensure compact. States have such compacts, allowing them to enter arrangements with other states on licensing professions. The HRSA press release states: "Streamlining licensure while maintaining quality standards improves access to services both by better facilitating hiring and by easing pathways to utilizing telehealth."
