Increasingly, STD services are being delivered in settings outside of public health clinics, from private physician clinics to community health centers. In response, CDC has issued a new document, Recommendations for Providing Quality Sexually Transmitted Diseases Clinical Services, 2020 (STD QCS) outlining recommendations on delivery of STD services in various clinical situations. The new recommendations are characterized as complementing CDC's Sexually Transmitted Diseases Treatment Guidelines, 2015.
STD QCS has eight sections:
- sexual history and physical examination
- partner services
- evaluation of STD-related conditions
- treatment, and
- referral to a specialist for complex STD or STD-related conditions
