Syringe Service Strategies Outlined in TA Document

Five "strategies" for putting syringe exchange programs into place are outlined in Syringe Services Programs: A Technical Package of Effective Strategies and Approaches for Planning, Design and Implementation. Each strategy includes several no-brainer but essential "approaches" (e.g., conduct a needs assessment to inform the model design, establish relationships to enhance a program's long-term viability). Strategies include:

  1. Involve people with lived experience of the issues impacting your target population
  2. SSP Planning, Design, and Implementation
  3. Core versus Expanded Services
  4. Collect Data to Inform Program Planning and Evaluation
  5. Sustainability

A pros/cons chart and resources round-out the document.
