What is the HIV Status Neutral Continuum?

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

The HIV Care Continuum is a familiar concept--steps from knowing one's HIV status to being fully virally suppressed. Less well known is HIV Neutral Continuum. The phrase, a head scratcher, "describes a world where HIV-positive people can't infect anyone and HIV-negative people can't get infected." (APICHA Community Health Center Blog, 6/19/18).

Graphics to the rescue. Below is the New York City HIV Status Neutral Prevention and Treatment Cycle (available in video and PDF formats), which comes to us courtesy of Dr. Susa Coffey of UCSF, whose many roles include serving as medical editor of the AETC National Coordinating Resource Center (NCRC). This resource is just one aspect of Ending the Epidemic activities undertaken by various jurisdictions, including New York State and New York City, which also has a dashboard to monitor progress in NYC.
