Part 1: ESCALATE Organizational Self-Assessment: A Tool to Target Stigma Reduction Efforts in Organizations
Participants will share in a hands- on, exploratory experience of the ESCALATE Organizational Self-Assessment (EOSA), a tool that examines institutional and cultural contexts of HIV stigma in clinics and other organizations. Panelists will use the ESOA’s existing data to reflect with participants on how the EOSA identifies ways to reduce stigma.
Learning Objectives
- Learn how the ESCALATE project has addressed stigma in RWHAP universe over the last years.
- Learn the fundamentals of organizational self- assessment, including both the benefits and limitations of self-assessment processes.
- Identify the difference between organizational, institutional, cultural, and behavioral contexts of HIV stigma and the different approaches that are more appropriate in each context.

Part 2: Creating a Stigma-Free Health Care System Through the Use of Quality Improvement
This workshop will focus on using a quality improvement framework and stigma-reduction tools to measure and reduce HIV stigma at various levels. It will also demonstrate how use of holistic approaches to eliminate stigmatizing aspects of health care can be scaled up, building a more stigma-free HIV health care system.
Learning Objectives
- Learn about different levels of stigma and their complex interactions.
- Attain first-hand experience on how to use quality improvement tools and methods to help reduce HIV stigma.
- Understand how addressing stigma associated with intersecting identities of people with HIV can help to improve the health care experience for people with HIV, improve the wellbeing of patients, and be a key element in ending the HIV epidemic.
