Thursday, June 21, 2018

A  ten state assessment of HIV data privacy and confidentiality presents insights into how health departments are balancing patient privacy with data-sharing activities. The June 2018 report, HIV Data Privacy and Confidentiality: Legal & Ethical Considerations for Health Department Data Sharing, was prepared by the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD).

Key findings included the importance of policies and procedures in safeguarding privacy and the variations across states in data use and data sharing activities. The report also summarizes community engagement efforts undertaken to explain data use activities and wraps up with considerations for health departments as they tackle data use and data sharing efforts.
