Trauma-Informed Approaches Toolkit
People living with HIV reportedly experience much higher rates of trauma (e.g., domestic abuse, neglect) than other groups of individuals. The HRSA-funded Trauma-Informed Approaches Toolkit presents ideas on delivery of what is called trauma-informed care, from a more supportive clinical environment to peer support. The toolkit was developed by the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD).
The first section presents research on trauma: NEAR Science, intersectionality, trauma throughout the HIV continuum, and vicarious trauma. The bulk of the toolkit is eight trauma-informed modules, represented in the below graph, and is based on the statewide initiative Trauma-Informed Oregon (TIO).
