HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day (HLTSAD) commemorates long-term survivors of the epidemic and raises awareness of their needs. The selection of the June 5 date for this annual observance coincides with the anniversary of the first official reporting of what became known as the AIDS epidemic. (APA

Long-term survivors are defined as people who became positive before 1996, and approximately one quarter of people with HIV in the United States fall into this category. 

The theme for HLTSAD 2020 is "Not Our First Pandemic."
