Description
Presenters will review strategies for community health worker (CHW) workforce development. They will also discuss the creation of certification systems, development of training opportunities, preservation of a community based CHW workforce, and financing mechanisms to support CHW positions. In addition, presenters will discuss the importance of CHW engagement and involvement in state policymaking and planning.
Learning Objectives
- Illustrate the critical role CHWs can play in advancing health equity and access to care.
- Define the potential benefits and practical limitations of various financing mechanisms that states are currently exploring to support CHWs.
- Assess emerging lessons about how financing, certification, and training interact in state considerations regarding CHW workforce development.
- Identify strategies states are using to involve CHWs in state policymaking.
