Description

Presenters will review strategies for community health worker (CHW) workforce development. They will also discuss the creation of certification systems, development of training opportunities, preservation of a community based CHW workforce, and financing mechanisms to support CHW positions. In addition, presenters will discuss the importance of CHW engagement and involvement in state policymaking and planning.

Learning Objectives

  1. Illustrate the critical role CHWs can play in advancing health equity and access to care.
  2. Define the potential benefits and practical limitations of various financing mechanisms that states are currently exploring to support CHWs.
  3. Assess emerging lessons about how financing, certification, and training interact in state considerations regarding CHW workforce development.
  4. Identify strategies states are using to involve CHWs in state policymaking.
