Description

This session describes cultural practices and beliefs of African-born persons with HIV, the ways in which such practices and beliefs impact the HIV care continuum, and ways in which entire systems can be involved and invested in optimizing engagement of the African-born in the HIV care continuum.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe cultural practices and beliefs of the African-born which may positively or negatively impact their engagement in the HIV care continuum.
  2. Identify strategies to optimize adherence to the HIV continuum of care for the African-born, taking into consideration the predominant practices and beliefs of this population.
  3. Discuss ways to systematize successful strategies to engage African-born populations in HIV primary care with optimal engagement in the HIV care continuum.
