From Adversity to Resilience: Three Innovative Text Messaging Interventions in the SPNS Social Media Initiative

Description

As part of the SPNS Social Media Initiative (SMI), three Ryan White recipients describe their experiences with text messaging, both automated and real-time, to increase engagement in care and the number of medical appointments kept, and improve viral suppression rates with an emphasis on engaging young men who have sex with men and trans women of color.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe three innovative text messaging interventions and the results, namely improved retention in care and viral load suppression rates.
  2. Discuss both automated bidirectional and unidirectional texting and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  3. Demonstrate that even with great adversity participants were able to maximize success in HIV care and treatment.
