Pregnant, Minority Women with HIV in the U.S., HIV/AIDS Epicenter: Two Sides of the Coin

Presentation Event
2020 National Ryan White Conference on HIV Care & Treatment
Organization
University of Miami
Presenter(s)
Lunthita Duthely
Description

After childbirth, women with HIV are more likely to fall out of care, leading to higher morbidity, risk of transmitting HIV to intimate partners, and subsequent pregnancies. Psychiatric disorders and other barriers are contributors to loss of follow-up. We present the successes and opportunities to improve health outcomes for postpartum women with HIV.

Learning Objectives

  1. Summarize HIV care engagement among pregnant and post-natal minority women with HIV in the United States.
  2. Characterize HIV care disengagement among women with HIV, followed in an academic medical center in Miami an HIV-epicenter.
  3. Describe a community engagement pilot project to keep women in care along the spectrum of prenatal, post-natal, and primary care.
