CDC has prepared a document, HIV Criminalization and Ending the HIV Epidemic, outlining reasons why states should update their HIV criminalization laws given changes in HIV prevention and treatment, including PrEP and the efficacy of antiretroviral therapy in preventing transmission.
According to the document, 37 states have HIV criminalize laws. The document highlights five states that have updated their legislation "to make them align with current scientific evidence."
