Expanded Eligibility for the Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy Program

From the HRSA HIV/AIDS Bureau Bulletin - 1/26/24

The Medicare Part D Low-Income Subsidy (LIS) program provides premium and cost-sharing assistance for low-income Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in Part D. Starting January 1, 2024, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022 (P.L. 117-169) expanded eligibility for the LIS to individuals with incomes up to 150 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL) (an increase from up to 135 percent of the FPL). Medicare beneficiaries with incomes between 135 and 150 percent of the FPL will now be eligible for full financial assistance under the LIS.

HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau encourages all Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) recipients and stakeholders to share information on the LIS eligibility updates with RWHAP clients who are enrolled in, or may be eligible for, the LIS.
