Improving Sexual Health among Adolescents and Young Adults
The Adolescent Quality Learning Network (AQLN) identified barriers to sexual health care in four areas: sexual health assessment; receipt of sexual health counseling; three-site STI testing; and receipt of STI treatment. The AQLN then tested approaches to address the identified barriers including opt-out testing, self-rectal swabs, and creating a sex positive environment in the clinic. After one year, the AQLN found improvements in the percentage of clients assessed for sexual health risks, as well as improvements in testing and treatment of STIs.Resource from the RWHAP Best Practices Compilation updated on 01/03/2024

Huntridge Rapid Start Initiative
The Huntridge Family Clinic launched the Rapid Start Initiative to provide same-day ART treatment and comprehensive case management to clients with a new diagnosis of HIV. Positive Care Center Rapid Access
Positive Care Center implemented the Rapid Access program in 2018, providing clients with ART on the same day as HIV diagnosis. Pharmacists, embedded within Positive Care Center’s care team, help clients with their treatment plans and adherence strategies. JumpstART
JumpstART launched in 2016 as part of New York State’s Ending the Epidemic initiative, changing the service delivery model of eight sexual health clinics to include an initial prescription of ART after an HIV diagnosis and prior to linkage to the community provider. Between November 2016 and September 2018, 60% of JumpstART clients received ART on the same day as diagnosis. Coordination of Supportive Employment and Housing Services
The intervention integrated supportive employment services, housing services, and HIV care for clients receiving case management services and with unmet housing and employment needs. Tobacco Use Reduction in People Living with HIV Project
The Tobacco Use Reduction in People Living with HIV Project was initiated in 2015 by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services' Tobacco Section. Tobacco cessation services were integrated into the clinical care delivered at various AIDS Service Organizations, and also offered outside of regularly scheduled medical appointments, such as during support groups and educational classes. POP-UP provides low-barrier comprehensive HIV primary care, substance use services, mental health services, and case management to people who are homeless and unstably housed with the goal of retaining clients in care and improving viral suppression.
