Presenters will review strategies for community health worker (CHW) workforce development. They will also discuss the creation of certification systems, development of training opportunities, preservation of a community based CHW workforce, and financing mechanisms to support CHW positions. In addition, presenters will discuss the importance of CHW engagement and involvement in state policymaking and planning.

HRSA is in a unique position implementing both RWHAP and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) programs. This advantage affords an understanding of the key components of successful intervention strategies of each program. Both domestic and global programs have documented their emerging strategies and evidence-informed models of care, which will be detailed at this presentation.

In this workshop, participants will gain knowledge, skills, and resources to use for engaging, retaining, and supporting viral suppression among vulnerable HIV populations. We will demonstrate training topics to improve staff skills and provide examples of activities, policies, and client interaction sessions to enhance service delivery systems.
