As part of the Special Projects of National Significance initiative, Strengthening Systems of Care for People with HIV and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), JSI/NASTAD provides technical assistance to nine states. This session will provide an opportunity to discuss HIV and OUD system barriers and diverse solutions states are employing to address challenges.

Presentation of a mixed-methods needs assessment to inform a multi-site evaluation plan for a HRSA Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) project to improve bacterial STI screening, testing, and treatment among people with or at risk for HIV will be presented, including findings, selected evidence-based interventions, and a proposed multi-site evaluation plan.

This session highlights specific HRSA and CDC resources used to reduce HIV-related stigma in rural areas and a recipient's best practices to reduce stigma in the healthcare setting to improve clients' health outcomes and quality of life. This report highlights projects found to offer highly effective (and replicable) approaches to integrating buprenorphine-based medication-assisted treatment into HIV/AIDS primary care. Chapters outline the processes programs need to put in place, including meeting DATA 2000 regulatory requirements, achieving institutional buy-in, implementing staff training requirements, and evaluating processes and outcomes.

University Health System’s peer engagement initiative employs peers, alongside Patient Navigators, to provide support and improve linkage and retention to care for youth, women, infants, and children. Group support activities and a chat-enabled website are two of the methods used to continually engage our population of focus.
