Research shows that African American students live with HIV more commonly than their primarily Caucasian counterparts. Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) educate millions of learners, positioning these entities to enact greater strategies to counter HIV acquisition and spread. This workshop describes an innovative partnership to address such factors at HBCUs.

This session will outline establishment of community partnerships and implementation of housing, nutrition, and substance use treatment programs. It will detail contract development between the presenters’ clinic and community partners and outline how, following policy clarification notice (PCN) 16-02 guidance on allowable uses of program income, community partners are reimbursed in support of these programs.

The Northeast/Caribbean AIDS Education and Training Center HIV Health Information Exchange (HIE) Initiative aims to empower HIV care networks to utilize the potential of emerging data exchange models toward improving HIV outcomes and ending the epidemic. Columbia University College of Dental Medicine has partnered with community partners to implement a dental care delivery system for PLWHA in NYC. A week-long Service Learning Rotation was integrated into the third-year dental student curriculum; data analysis from this pilot year will be used for program quality improvement and modification.
