Implementing trauma-informed principles in a meaningful way is a critical component to ending the HIV epidemic. This institute will begin with an overview of the impact of trauma and chronic stress and then move into implementing trauma-informed principles, including the importance of staff and organizational health.

Maricopa County’s Part A Program used HRSA Policy 18-02, which defines allowable services for incarcerated individuals, to expand services in county jails. This session provides a clinical and administrative perspective on the processes, forms, and services that decreased time from jail-based diagnosis to treatment and viral load suppression.

In December 2019 the Iowa ADAP launched its Jail Assistance Program to extend HIV medication access to county jails. The ADAP partnered with a local jail to create a program that could be replicated across all of Iowa’s 99 counties. This presentation will focus on program development, utilization, and lessons learned.

Join us as we explore the connections among trauma, recovery, health, and spirituality, and learn ways to transform our practices and programs.

This peer-led workshop will include skills-building interactive sessions about two evidence-informed interventions that address trauma and addictions among people with HIV, specifically Trauma-Informed Approach & Coordinated Assistance and Navigation for Growth and Empowerment (TIA/CHANGE) and Seeking Safety.

Substance abuse, interpersonal violence, depression, and HIV are part of overlapping and intersecting epidemics which adversely affect the prognosis and intensify the burden of each. This session will review existing literature on this syndemic, lessons learned in initial implementation of a screening and linkage program, and implications for practice.

Panelists will describe collaborative prevention and support services provided to people with HIV and/or hepatitis from incarceration to re-entry. Services addressing social determinants of health are provided in corrections facilities and upon release. Panelists include the program director, staff from a correctional medical facility, and community-based organizations working inside and outside of correction facilities.

HRSA/HAB guidance on using RWHAP funds to provide services to eligible individuals in prisons, jails, and other correctional systems allows recipients to determine which RWHAP services to provide and for how long. This session will provide overviews of HAB policy and two recipients' programs serving people who are justice-involved.

It can provide a framework for working more effectively with vulnerable populations experiencing HIV. This interactive session will introduce participants to the practical aspects of TIC interventions.

To end the epidemic, we must consider the impact of organizational environments and create effective strategies to build healthy environments. Informed by trauma-informed care principles, trauma-informed supervision is an effective solution in creating meaningful and productive professional relationships and systems that result in quality care for people with HIV.
