Telemedicine has emerged to provide medical care to those in rural settings. This model has not yet been utilized by Ryan White clinics at academic centers. We use a multidisciplinary approach to conduct visits with patients via live videoconferencing. There are multiple challenges, but there is potential for increasing access.

Using three HIV telehealth pilot projects as case studies, telehealth leaders from the Medical University of South Carolina—a HRSA-funded Telehealth Center of Excellence—will discuss how telehealth might be leveraged to improve access to HIV prevention and care. Telehealth offers patients a virtual way of meeting with their care providers, while also improving patient engagement and care plan adherence.
