Rapid antiretroviral treatment (ART) initiation in the United States remained 'investigational' until the update in the Department of Health and Human Services guidelines (December 18, 2019). Centers for AIDS Research (CFARs) in D.C., the San Francisco Bay area, and Baltimore will share how they are working with their health departments and implementing partners, including Ryan White-funded clinics to address rapid ART implementation strategies.

Timely antiretroviral treatment (ART) initiation, linkage, and retention in care are critical keys for the optimal outcomes in patients with HIV infection. Implementing an open access process for medical, mental, and intensive case management care gives patients the ability to better achieve medication adherence and viral load suppression.

North Carolina's HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Unit, along with Western North Carolina Community Health Services and Carolina Family Health Center -- two federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) -- has initiated a pilot rapid antiretroviral treatment (ART) program utilizing carryover funds and a streamlined HIV Medication Assistance Program application process. Preliminary data will be shared on the success of the pilot program.

A culturally sensitive, participant-driven, Spanish-language group for Latina women with HIV promoted engagement in HIV services. Many participants had never previously engaged in support services. The increased participation resulted in multiple positive outcomes, including HIV viral load suppression, reduced stigma and isolation, engagement in mental health services, and increased community advocacy.

This workshop will share youth-tailored innovative approaches, such as integrated mental health and clinical nutrition services for peer support, facilitated transportation conducted by case managers via a rideshare program for youth clients, and a grading system to assess individual readiness and help guide transition to adult care.

This session will describe the use of the Culturally Responsive Evaluation (CRE) framework to evaluate the initiative.

This session will outline establishment of community partnerships and implementation of housing, nutrition, and substance use treatment programs. It will detail contract development between the presenters’ clinic and community partners and outline how, following policy clarification notice (PCN) 16-02 guidance on allowable uses of program income, community partners are reimbursed in support of these programs.

Women in the U.S. represent only 7% of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) users. A free walk-in service in Washington, D.C., staffed by health educators was created and sought to reduce barriers to sexual health services, yielding an increase in female patients to 65% of new PrEP starts during a four-month pilot program.

With integrative, patient-centered care, the organization’s interdisciplinary team approach to caring for patients with HIV has achieved a retention rate of 95% and the viral load suppression of patients with HIV to 95%.
