University of Mississippi Medical Center utilized known barriers to care for postpartum women with HIV and leveraged that information to schedule individualized interactions with pregnant and postpartum women with HIV. This low-cost, low-effort initiative resulted in statistically significant improvements in both retention in care and viral suppression rates in postpartum women with HIV.

This sub-study compared viral suppression between SPNS participants and non-participants at the Meharry site. The SPNS study enrolled women of color newly who were recently diagnosed with HIV or lost to care. There was no statistically significant difference in viral suppression after controlling for demographic and clinical factors.

After childbirth, women with HIV are more likely to fall out of care, leading to higher morbidity, risk of transmitting HIV to intimate partners, and subsequent pregnancies. Psychiatric disorders and other barriers are contributors to loss of follow-up. We present the successes and opportunities to improve health outcomes for postpartum women with HIV.

Telemedicine has emerged to provide medical care to those in rural settings. This model has not yet been utilized by Ryan White clinics at academic centers. We use a multidisciplinary approach to conduct visits with patients via live videoconferencing. There are multiple challenges, but there is potential for increasing access.

Using three HIV telehealth pilot projects as case studies, telehealth leaders from the Medical University of South Carolina—a HRSA-funded Telehealth Center of Excellence—will discuss how telehealth might be leveraged to improve access to HIV prevention and care. Telehealth technical assistance opportunities available through HRSA will also be highlighted.

Georgia’s telehealth/telemedicine and Project ECHO programs aim to identify and tackle barriers faced by urban and rural environments. Telehealth offers patients a virtual way of meeting with their care providers, while also improving patient engagement and care plan adherence. Project ECHO is aimed at workforce development and capacity building.

Rather than filling out an online form (as with the Recipient Report and the Provider Report), you must upload these data in an electronic file, with a record for each client, in a specific XML (eXtensible Markup Language) format. Each client record must be assigned an encrypted Unique Client Identifier (eUCI).
