Engaging the community and including faith institutions are key to improve access to care, treatment, and adherence. This session will highlight how three projects are working with implementing partners in the rural South.

Oklahoma has been classified by the Department of Health and Human Services as one of the seven states with a high rural HIV burden. Test-and-treat protocols are feasible within high-volume HIV clinics which serve rural and underserved communities to minimize the time to the first appointment to decrease time to viral load suppression.

This workshop will highlight the AIDS Education Training Centers' (AETC) Core Training activities from 2016 through 2019, focusing on types of providers reached, priority training topics, and training modalities. Two AETCs will share experiences engaging rural jurisdictions with low-volume HIV providers and approaches for reaching providers in the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative jurisdictions.

This session highlights specific HRSA and CDC resources used to reduce HIV-related stigma in rural areas and a recipient's best practices to reduce stigma in the healthcare setting to improve clients' health outcomes and quality of life. The Women Informational Network (WIN) micro-grant initiative supports grassroots, women-led, community-based organizations and leaders conducting innovative approaches that reduce isolation and stigma for women of color with HIV, with a special emphasis placed on women with HIV living in rural areas and ‘resource deserts’ not connected to care.
