This presentation focuses on peer-based training for engaging consumer voices in HIV providers' quality improvement efforts. Community-based, peer-led efforts impact HIV care program effectiveness. Peer-led training concentrating on client advocacy and involvement in quality improvement is another method for promoting intentional collaboration between HIV service programs and people with HIV.

This workshop will explore the implementation of peer-led, evidence-informed interventions for transgender women with HIV. The programs are Healthy Divas, and Transgender Women Engagement and Entry to Care Project (T.W.E.E.T.). Attendees will learn the core elements of these interventions and how they improve engagement in care, treatment adherence, and viral suppression in Alabama and Michigan.

Community Health Workers (CHWs) were added to the care team to work with clients with poor treatment adherence and not viral load suppression (VLS). Clients benefited from CHW services that contributed to VLS in over 50% of the clients assigned to them. CHWs are vital in ending the epidemic in challenging client populations

This workshop will highlight the AIDS Education Training Centers' (AETC) Core Training activities from 2016 through 2019, focusing on types of providers reached, priority training topics, and training modalities. Two AETCs will share experiences engaging rural jurisdictions with low-volume HIV providers and approaches for reaching providers in the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative jurisdictions.

This session is an overview of a Part F dental program's two-year journey to increase access to oral healthcare for people with HIV. The number of clients served, which was stagnant for several years, increased by 126% over the two-year initiative through increased collaboration and integration, dental case management, and innovative ways to increase capacity.

Massachusetts' statewide HIV Dental Services program is a unique collaboration across Ryan White Parts A and B to ensure all eligible residents with HIV in need of oral health services receive them. Data show that access to the program is associated with improved care continuum outcomes.

Transgender women and men are at markedly elevated risk for HIV. This session reviews a successful four-pronged approach to building the capacity of a large multi-site RWHAP-funded community health center network, in collaboration with a community-based organization, to improve delivery of HIV primary care to transgender women and men.

They will also discuss the creation of certification systems, development of training opportunities, preservation of a community based CHW workforce, and financing mechanisms to support CHW positions. In addition, presenters will discuss the importance of CHW engagement and involvement in state policymaking and planning.

Successful CHW integration is dependent on multiple factors. This interactive institute will detail strategies for integrating CHW models in HIV care based on a 10-site evaluation.

The Northeast/Caribbean AIDS Education & Training Center ACCESS program is designed to build community-level capacity for HIV treatment of high-need, medically underserved, minority populations in the Northeast/Caribbean region at both the individual and site levels. This presentation describes the program and its impact from the coordinator, trainer, and participant perspectives.

The MidAtlantic AETC Practice Transformation Project (MAAETC PTP) focuses on 11 Ryan White clinics and federally qualified health centers in the region. Through the MAAETC PTP, multiple clinics showed key improvements in areas focused on by the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative, namely increasing HIV testing rates, improving linkage to care, and the implementation of pre-exposure prophylaxis.

The U.S./Mexico border region has some of the nation’s poorest health outcomes. The US/Mexico Border AETC Steering Team (UMBAST) has provided HIV-related training with multiple federally funded training centers for 15 years. This workshop will share UMBAST’s resources, lessons learned, best practices, and future plans.

The initiation of individualized support groups for people with HIV has shown significant improvements in viral load suppression rates for participants. Baseline viral suppression rates measured at group enrollment were 35.5% (n=31). Viral suppression rates for the end of the year showed 100% of participants being suppressed (n=31).

The Regional AIDS Education Training Centers (AETC) Program’s Practice Transformation (PT) and Interprofessional Education (IPE) projects provide training to organizations to increase providers’ and pre-professional providers’ capacity to deliver patient-centered, team-based care. This workshop will focus on the outcomes and implementation experience of hands-on training and coaching activities provided through PT and IPE.

Alliance for Positive Change, a New York City community-based organization, will present its pioneering peer training and workforce development initiatives that create opportunities for low-income New Yorkers with shared, lived experiences to re-enter the workforce. Additionally, presenters will provide an overview of the proven health and psychosocial benefits of returning to work for people with HIV.

The Howard University National HIV Curriculum Integration Project (H-NIP) is expanding the HIV clinical workforce by assisting medical, nursing, pharmacy and other health profession programs at historically black colleges and universities to integrate the National HIV Curriculum e-Learning Platform into their education and training curricula.

The Clinician Consultation Center receives calls regarding pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in conception, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. The session will focus on the organization’s experience, as well as current data and expert opinion, to discuss best practices for HIV prevention in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
