This workshop will describe how the Los Angeles Area AETC developed an inter-professional practice (IPP) program with the Charles Drew NP program, USC’s School of Pharmacy, UCLA’s School of Medicine, and the West LA’s psychiatric residency program -- along with five Ryan White clinics -- to help develop the next generation of HIV teams.

This advantage affords an understanding of the key components of successful intervention strategies of each program. A culturally sensitive, participant-driven, Spanish-language group for Latina women with HIV promoted engagement in HIV services. Many participants had never previously engaged in support services. The increased participation resulted in multiple positive outcomes, including HIV viral load suppression, reduced stigma and isolation, engagement in mental health services, and increased community advocacy.

This session will discuss how to reduce the percentage of HIV patients who are out of care. Participants will learn to use a multi-disciplinary team approach to identify patients who are truly out of care, pinpoint the most effective approach toward contacting patients to be brought back into HIV care, and maintain the patient’s HIV care.

To reverse this increasing trend, it is important to recognize the social, economic, linguistic, and cultural barriers that hinder the prevention and treatment efforts for HIV when developing an outreach strategy.
