This report highlights projects found to offer highly effective (and replicable) approaches to integrating buprenorphine-based medication-assisted treatment into HIV/AIDS primary care. An estimated one in seven people with HIV leave correctional facilities each year in the United States. Many struggle to access care and treatment upon release, with as many as 95 percent experiencing a gap in HIV treatment. Although public health interventions centered on HIV care and treatment within correctional settings have increased over time, more programs are necessary to address the interconnected needs of people with HIV who have been incarcerated, both during their incarceration and after their release.
